Question by ihcuids: Has anyone heard of shirataki noodles and where to find them?
I just read an interesting article in Men’s Health about shirataki noodles as a substitute for regular noodles in a variety if dishes, but I have never heard of them before. Does anyone know where to find them, like if a major grocery store chain carries them or where to get them online?
They are also called Japanese Yam Noodles.

You can buy them here: http://www.asianfoodgrocer.com/category/shirataki-noodles

And there are recipes for them here: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/b/2006/09/20/shirataki-noodle-recipes.htm

From what I’ve seen they are not available at Walmart, Stop&Shop, etc.

Macaroni and Cheese with Miracle Noodles

2 bags of miracle rice – you can use any variety that you select and you can just cut them to the size that you would like in your dish. I prefer the rice myself.

¼ of a cup of milk or whole cream, this depends on the calorie content that you are trying to create.

1 cup of shredded cheese, I like to combine a couple of varieties when I am making mine. A few of my favorites are Romano, Parmesan and Munster. I am always changing this up though.

Salt and pepper for taste.

1 tablespoon of butter

Mix all of the above ingredients in a bowl that you can put in the oven to bake the pasta.
I like to put a topping on mine. I use Ritz crackers and I crush them into small pieces. You will want to mix in a little seasoning like salt and pepper, cayenne, red pepper flakes or any other spicy treat for your palate. Then evenly spread it across the top of your pan prior to placing it in the oven to bake. You can cover the dish with foil if you prefer while you are baking it. This is a real treat. If you are looking for a lower calorie ways to make this then use fat free milk and cheese. Instead of using the butter try using coconut oil or your own alternative to butter. You can even add in some ground beef, chopped ham or chicken for protein and to put a little twist on a delicious entrée.

I hope that all of my readers enjoy this miracle noodle recipe. I try to bring you my top favorites from time to time. Please leave me your comments below when you have a chance to try your own version of this recipe.
